The Tikkun Olam/Social Action Team is dedicated to supporting the greater Detroit area's efforts to relieve hunger; provide material gifts to the needy in the form of books, toys and personal goods; and to expand upon Judaism's unique perspective on what it means to repair the world. We are also exploring advocacy work as part of Tikkun Olam's mission.
Since September donors and volunteers have made possible:
• a gift of 80 back to school backpacks filled with school supplies and books
• weaving sleeping mats for the homeless
• a thank you docent-led tour of Beth Ahm's garden and an ice cream social for our volunteers
• a morning with Chad Techner, founder of Metro Food Rescue, with fifteen volunteers who made meals
and assembled soup kits that were then donated to local hunger organizations.
We welcome your energy and dedication. Please contact Debra Darvick (debradarvick@gmail.com) or Carol Kent (carolkent@aol.com.) Have a favorite project you devote time to? Let us know! We are always looking for ways to help those who are helping others.
