Major Mitzvah Opportunity -Lighthouse Emergency Shelter

Beth Ahm will assist with Lighthouse Emergency Shelter from December 23-27.  This is a great opportunity for you to do a mitzvah and help those in need.

What Is The Emergency Shelter Project?
Each week, a local congregation takes on the responsibility of hosting Lighthouse shelter families in emergency shelter housing.  The guests are provided with overnight accommodations, three daily meals, transportation, and meaningful interactions with caring volunteers.

Congregation Beth Shalom will be hosting approximately 30-35 people over the course of Dec 23-27th.  This is Beth Ahm’s first year working on the Emergency Shelter project, and we are assisting Beth Shalom.

How Can I Help?
There are several ways you can assist:

1.  Beth Ahm’s main opportunity will be to provide lunch for the people who will be staying at the Emergency Shelter.  We are looking for volunteers to prepare bag lunches at Beth Ahm on the evenings.  Preparation will take approximately 1 hour. Here’s the schedule for lunch preparation:
     Sunday, December 22 at 3:00pm
     Monday, December 23 at 6:00pm
     Wednesday, December 25 at 3:00pm
     Thursday, December 26 at 6:00pm

if you are able to assist with any of the above, please contact Dennis Blender at dblender@comcast.net or Rabbi Rubenstein at ravsteven@cbahm.org.

2.  Donate to this project.  You can make a financial contribution to Beth Ahm’s efforts by donating to the Tikkun Olam/Social Action Committee at Beth Ahm and marking your donation “Lighthouse Project.” You can donate here: https://www.cbahm.org/tzedeka.

3.  Other important opportunities to assist with the project at Beth Shalom. Volunteers to help with driving, food preparation, mattress move-in, laundry, as well as other tasks are needed.  If you are interested in one of these volunteer opportunities, please visit this link: bit.ly/ShelterWeek19
