The Traveling Trunk is an interactive and experiential journey through Michigan's Jewish history.  It includes a journal, family assignments, props, interactive skits, music, and games to bring history to life.
Thursday, February 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Beth Ahm
In this session we'll learn about Michigan’s first Jewish settlers (mid-late 18th century), 19th century Jewish life in Detroit, Jewish personalities throughout the State of Michigan, and Michigan Jews’ involvement in the abolitionist movement and the Civil War.  Dinner will be served.
Thursday, March 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Beth Ahm
In this session we'll learn about Jewish immigration in the late-19th century, the social service organizations created for Jewish Detroiters in the late 19th/early 20th century, life in Jewish Detroit neighborhoods (mid-20th century), and the impact of suburban moves to Jewish communal life.  Dinner will be served.
Sunday, April 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Meet at Beth Ahm and hop-on the bus to experience history in the streets of Detroit.  We'll visit historical sites and see re-enactors that will make history come alive.
The traveling trunk is for children in grades 3-6 and their parents/grandparents.  There is no cost to participate thanks to a generous grant from the Jewish Federation.  Advanced registration is required.  Participation in all sessions is expected.
