The Fast of the Firstborn (Ta’anit Bekhorim) reminds us the firstborn of Egypt were slain during the tenth plague while the Israelite firstborn were spared.  In recognition, all firstborn should fast on Erev Pesah.  This responsibility is nullified when a firstborn has a festive meal following the completion of study of a Jewish text.
