ABOUT OUR DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION...
Beth Ahm is pleased to announce the arrival of Amy Appelman as its new Director of Education.  Her academic background, professional experience and proven enthusiasm for Jewish education will enhance the current educational program at Beth Ahm.  Her work will include education in the broadest sense encompassing the religious school, teens, adults and families of all ages.                                                

Appelman was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in Jewish Studies and Religious Studies.  She has lived in Jerusalem, Israel twice; once during undergraduate studies and once during graduate studies.  In 2000, she received her Masters in Jewish Education from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, Rhea Hirsch School of Education in Los Angeles, California.  Prior to coming to Beth Ahm, Appelman was the Director of Family Education at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield from 2002-07.  Prior to moving to Michigan in 2002 she was the Judaic Studies Coordinator at Temple Israel of Hollywood Day School in Los Angeles, CA.

Her thirteen years of experience in Jewish education have included a wide array of work in both formal and informal education.  Additionally, she developed and implemented a successful family school (Kallah) at Temple Israel and initiated many innovative educational programs for families.  Appelman recently received the honor and prestigious title of Reform Jewish Educator, bestowed upon those who have completed rigorous requirements in the field of Jewish Education.

She has two children, Elijah and Ravi.

The Natalie and Manny Charach Religious School prides itself on an individualized Judaic and Hebrew learning experience for students based on his/her needs and developmental level.  Students and families have benefited from the one-on-one attention their children receive in the two-day week program.  In addition, Appelman looks forward to planning an enriched and exciting Family Programming calendar.
